Galatians 3:17-20
What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise. 18For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on a promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise. 19What, then, was the purpose of the law? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was put into effect through angels by a mediator. 20A mediator, however, does not represent just one party; but God is one.
23Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. 24So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ[h] that we might be justified by faith. 25Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.
26You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, 27for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
28There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Gal. 4 : 9-11, 17
9But now that you know Godor rather are known by Godhow is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? 10You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! 11I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.
17Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may be zealous for them.
These verses explain that God's covenant promise came FIRST, and the LAW second. He first gave us the promise of our inheritance (as heirs- through Abraham), and then the law in order that we would be led to Christ.
Jesus' life and death and resurrection are fulfillment of the first covenant, we are led to Him by the law (knowing that we are sinners). Faith was revealed through Christ and our Faith in Him is the catalyst of release from the Law.
It goes on... we are all to walk in Unity - clothed by Christ, not our nationality, our status or who we are personally.
And people who try to get you to follow anything else but Christ through faith are trying to alienate you and to make you "zealous for them". (flat-out idol worship).
It makes me sad that some people feel the need to turn "back to those weak and miserable principles....wish(ing) to be enslaved by them all over again..." We are free to be Sons of God through Christ Jesus. We should hold on to that, and love Him well by living for HIM. If we don't love Him, our actions might as well be a banging gong or a clanging cymbal.
